Compassativ church and willing to help those in need
Added March 28, 2017 by Bob Child - ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
We were invited to go to this church from one of our friends. We went to this church on Easter 2014. This is the most unfriendly church that I have ever attended in my life, and I'm middle aged and have went to church my whole life. People stand at the doors when you enter the church and do not make eye contact and do not shake your hand. Because they didn't know me or my husband they looked surprised and said "Oh". We only met the minister because our friend walked us over to him and introduced us. The minister said "Oh well, I probably won't remember your name but there are several different areas you can go to for bible study. The old people usually use this room and the young adults use this room .." and he pointed out about 4 or 5 different rooms that members use to do bible study. When he was finished explaining how he divides up his congregation, I was the one who held out my hand to say "nice to meet you" because the idea of him doing something like that had escaped him. Our friends who attend this church are really nice and friendly people. We didn't know anyone else that was a regular church member. No one from this church, including the minister, smiled shook our hand or introduced themselves. Most of the members that took notice of us looked at us like we were a bug under a microscope and made us feel very uncomfortable and we distinctly felt like outsiders who had trespassed upon a private occasion. Every church that I have ever attended in my life really believes in fellowship. I have no idea how this church can give anyone that sort of experience when they divide their members into groups and send them to the 4 corners of their church to bible study and do not welcome new members. When we got home from church 2 different neighbors called us to see how we liked it. When we told them what happened they said that they had the same sort of experience when they attended this church. They also recommended their own church as a better alternative. So if any of you out there are looking for a church, as me and my husband were, you would be better off going to the other Baptist church in Lexington and passing over this church. The other church has really nice people who welcome new members and their minister will even shake your hand, smile, make eye contact and tell you "welcome to church".
